{"id":860,"date":"2022-11-23T20:29:18","date_gmt":"2022-11-23T20:29:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dataomics.tech\/?p=860"},"modified":"2025-10-29T12:25:43","modified_gmt":"2025-10-29T12:25:43","slug":"in-silico-tools-to-boost-shrimp-farming","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dataomics.tech\/en\/in-silico-tools-to-boost-shrimp-farming\/","title":{"rendered":"In silico tools to boost shrimp farming"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff; font-size: 24pt;\"><strong>In silico tools to boost shrimp farming<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">In the past few months, we have been working a lot with the immunological responses of shrimps, and that is why we always have at hand <a href=\"https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/abs\/10.1111\/raq.12642\">the review of Fajardo &amp; colleagues (2021)<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">We like it so much that we&#8217;d like to share some aspects of the review on our blog today, for customers who haven&#8217;t taken full advantage of their trials and challenges, or for omics enthusiasts like us \u00a0(the passion<i>omics \u263a<\/i>).<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Thanks to the progress made in the field of transcriptomic analysis through massive mRNA sequencing technology, currently exists a significant amount of data about the crustacean immune system.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/abs\/10.1111\/raq.12642\">The review<\/a> showed shrimps\u2019 genes and metabolic pathways associated with the immune system through the development of a meta-analysis. The researchers analyzed 1,195 transcriptomic data sets from 14 species from the Penaeus genus from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/sra\">Sequence Read Archive (SRA) database<\/a> of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/\">National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI).\u00a0<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The literature about these data sets explored how the shrimp\u2019s immune response changes owing to challenges with pathogens, abiotic stressors (ammonia, temperature, salinity, oxygen deprivation, and pH), dietary factors, and beneficial microbes (pre-and probiotics).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Certainly, the <i>in silico<\/i> information from sequences\u2019 database can be converted into commercial applications to boost shrimp farming, develop more sustainable feeds, and select more disease-resistant strains\u2026 But such a vast amount of information needs to be analyzed using multidisciplinary approaches and reliable data analysis tools.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">This is particularly important in the so-called <a href=\"https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/10.1111\/raq.12438\">training immunology<\/a>, a concept that has been studied in <i>P. vannamei<\/i>, <i>P. monodon<\/i>, <i>P. japonicus<\/i>, and <i>Procambarus clarkia<\/i> and that considers the effects of \u2018vaccines\u2019 on the memory of the innate immune system and in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.frontiersin.org\/articles\/10.3389\/fgene.2014.00298\/full\">nutrigenomics<\/a>, a new discipline that studies <b>metabolic pathways<\/b> to get better combinations of nutrients and optimize feeds.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Furthermore, <b>NGS technology<\/b>, which generated massive amounts of sequencing data, requires more computing capacity and more efficient software to produce accurate results, or the incorporation of algorithms based on <b>artificial intelligence<\/b> (AI) and <b>machine learning<\/b>, which can aid in the use of such large data sets by allowing the understanding of immune responses, for example.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">At the same time,<b> cloud-based services<\/b> can also be useful since they can incorporate AI-based approaches to provide vast graphical processing units to support AI applications.
